1. Do Filipinos need a visa for Taiwan right now?

OFFICIAL FACT: Eligible nationals of the Philippines may currently enter Taiwan visa-free for up to 14 days. The trial arrangement is effective through July 31, 2027. Philippine diplomatic and official or service passport holders are excluded from this particular arrangement.

The stay starts on the day after arrival and is generally not extendable. Visa-free entry does not guarantee admission: immigration officers at the port of entry make the final eligibility decision. Recheck both the BOCA visa-exempt requirements and the MOFA extension announcement before travel.

2. What documents should you prepare?

OFFICIAL FACT: BOCA lists a passport with at least six months’ remaining validity on the date of entry; a confirmed return ticket or onward ticket plus any visa needed for the next destination; a confirmed departure reservation; proof of accommodation; host or sponsor contact information; and sufficient travel funds.

PRACTICAL GUIDANCE: Keep the passport original with you and save offline copies of your ticket, booking confirmation, full address in English and Traditional Chinese, contact number and a simple itinerary. Show genuine documents and answer questions according to your real plans. There is no official universal cash minimum on the BOCA page, so do not rely on viral claims that every traveler must carry one fixed amount.

3. What should you prepare for Taiwan immigration?

OFFICIAL FACT: Travelers who need a Taiwan Arrival Card must submit the free online TWAC within seven days before arrival, including the arrival day. Prepare a valid passport, email, phone number, occupation, travel details and accommodation information. Each required traveler, including a child, needs an individual record.

PRACTICAL GUIDANCE: Keep the TWAC confirmation accessible, but do not treat it as entry approval. Be ready to state how long you will stay, where you will sleep, how you will leave Taiwan and how you will pay for the trip. Do not give memorized answers that conflict with your bookings.

4. What should you know about accommodation?

OFFICIAL FACT: Philippine passport holders using this visa-free arrangement must have proof of accommodation booking and host or sponsor contact information. Your first night’s details should be complete even if you plan to change cities later.

PRACTICAL GUIDANCE: Choose your area around the trip you will actually take, not only the cheapest room. Check the nearest MRT or railway station, late check-in instructions, luggage rules and the final price. Save the address in Traditional Chinese so a driver or station staff member can help even when English is limited.

5. How do you get from Taoyuan Airport to Taipei?

OFFICIAL FACT: Taoyuan Airport MRT serves Terminal 1 (A12), Terminal 2 (A13) and Taipei Main Station (A1). Express and commuter services have different stopping patterns. Check the official Taoyuan Metro passenger guide for the current timetable, fare and last service.

PRACTICAL GUIDANCE: Airport MRT is the simplest default for many Taipei stays, but it is not the only option. Airport buses and official taxi queues may fit your address, luggage or late arrival better. Save one backup before flying and use official signs and counters instead of unsolicited rides. 6. How should you pay in Taiwan?

PRACTICAL GUIDANCE: Taiwan uses the New Taiwan dollar (NTD or TWD). Cards and mobile payments are available in many hotels, malls and chains, but cash remains useful for markets, small shops and some local services. Carry some local currency, one enabled international card and a backup kept separately. 8. How do EasyCard and the MRT work?

OFFICIAL FACT: EasyCard is a stored-value card accepted across participating transport and retail services. On the MRT, tap at both entry and exit gates. It is not a universal bank card, and service rules can differ. Review the official EasyCard guide and the operator for your route.

PRACTICAL GUIDANCE: Keep the card separate when tapping, watch the gate display and maintain enough stored value for the next trip. Download an offline map and keep your accommodation station and exit number in a note. If you get lost, stop inside the station, check the line color and direction, or show station staff the saved destination.

9. Health and customs checks before you pack

OFFICIAL FACT: The current BOCA and TWAC instructions reviewed for an ordinary tourist trip do not list a routine COVID vaccination certificate or pre-departure test among the required documents. Health measures can still depend on symptoms, outbreak exposure or recent travel history. Check Taiwan CDC and your airline if you are unwell or have recently visited an affected area.

Taiwan Customs requires declaration for regulated goods, items above duty-free limits and controlled cash or valuables. Fresh fruit is banned, and plants, animal products, medicines and other controlled items have separate rules. 10. What first-time travelers often forget

Check the weather for the actual city and date on the Central Weather Administration, especially during typhoon season.
Save documents, maps and emergency contacts outside one app.
Pack comfortable walking shoes, a light rain layer and a power solution that matches your devices.
Save the accommodation address in Traditional Chinese and the last-check-in instructions.
Confirm your departure terminal and baggage allowance directly with the airline.
Do not carry another person’s package through Customs.
