The airport’s official transport page says both Express and Commuter services call at A12 and A13. Follow the Airport MRT signs from your arrivals terminal; do not travel to the other terminal just to find a train.

PRACTICAL GUIDANCE: If your accommodation is near Taipei Main Station, Airport MRT is usually the fewest-decision option while trains are operating. Express vs Commuter train

OFFICIAL FACT: Taoyuan Metro identifies the Express train in purple and the Commuter train in blue. Express services stop at selected major stations, including A12, A13 and A1. Commuter services stop at every station. Always read the platform display because special or extended stopping patterns can appear in the live timetable.

Choose Express when A1 Taipei Main Station is your goal and you want fewer stops.
Choose Commuter when your required station is not an Express stop, or when waiting for another Express would not improve the full journey.

OFFICIAL FACT: Taoyuan Airport’s live bus page lists current Taipei services, including Kuo-Kuang routes to Taipei Bus Station and other operator routes serving different parts of Taipei. The airport places the Terminal 1 bus area at B1 of the Arrivals Hall and the Terminal 2 bus area outside the east side of the 1F Arrivals Hall.

PRACTICAL GUIDANCE: A bus can be better than the train when a current route stops near your hotel and avoids a difficult Taipei Main Station transfer. It can be worse when the stop still leaves a long walk, the road is congested or you have not checked the last service. Verify the exact operator, route, stop and timetable at the official page or airport ticket counter on the day; route numbers alone are not a complete plan.

Official airport taxi option

OFFICIAL FACT: Taoyuan Airport states that its airport taxi service operates 24 hours a day, year-round. Official airport taxis use the meter; highway tolls are separate. Use the signed official queue in the arrivals area. The airport’s current public-transport page identifies the pickup points as Terminal 1 Arrivals Hall 1F East Gate 12 and Terminal 2 Arrivals Hall East Gate 26 across the car lane.

PRACTICAL GUIDANCE: Taxi is strongest when your arrival is too late for public transport, your hotel is not convenient from A1, or your party has children, several large bags or limited mobility. A couple, family or group may value one direct vehicle more than several transfers, but confirm that the vehicle can safely fit everyone and every bag. Save the accommodation name, phone number and full address in Traditional Chinese.

What if you arrive late at night?

Do not plan from scheduled landing time alone. Add immigration, baggage claim, customs, cash or connectivity needs and the walk to the transport area.
Check A12 or A13, not a generic timetable. Use Taoyuan Metro’s live first/last service for your terminal and date.
Check the full chain. Catching the last Airport MRT is not enough if your Taipei Metro connection or hotel check-in will be closed.
Save a road backup before flying. Check a current official airport bus route; if public transport has stopped, use the 24-hour official taxi queue.

PRACTICAL GUIDANCE: If you miss the last public transport, do not accept an unsolicited ride. Go to the official taxi queue or ask an airport information counter to direct you. Also confirm late check-in and 24-hour building access with your accommodation; they are not the same promise.

Large luggage, families and groups

OFFICIAL FACT: Taoyuan Metro describes Airport MRT trains as providing luggage racks and airport-passenger facilities. This does not make every hotel transfer step luggage-friendly.

One suitcase per traveler and an easy final walk: Airport MRT is usually practical.
Stroller, young children or several large bags: reduce station changes and check elevator routes before choosing rail.
Family or friends: compare total convenience, not only one person’s fare. A taxi can remove multiple tickets, transfers and the final walk, but still requires a suitable vehicle.

Taipei Main Station

Best default: Airport MRT Express to A1. PRACTICAL GUIDANCE: “Taipei Main Station” describes a large transport area, not one small platform. Confirm whether your hotel is near A1 Airport MRT, Taipei Metro, Taiwan Railways, HSR or Taipei Bus Station, then save the correct exit and walking route.

Ximending

Best default: Airport MRT to A1, then connect to Taipei Metro and travel one Bannan Line stop from Taipei Main Station to Ximen. PRACTICAL GUIDANCE: The transfer walk plus a busy or pedestrian final street can be tiring with large luggage. Compare that complete route with a direct taxi, especially late at night.

Zhongshan

Best default: Airport MRT to A1, then transfer to the Tamsui-Xinyi Line for one stop from Taipei Main Station to Zhongshan. PRACTICAL GUIDANCE: Some official airport bus routes use the Zhongshan corridor, but route stops and schedules change. Compare the live route with your exact hotel pin rather than choosing by district name.

Xinyi
